Get To Know Your Duvet Tog And Which One Is Right For You?

Posted on by Sleep Expert

When shopping for a new duvet, it’s important to know what you’re exactly looking for. Depending on your situation, the right duvet for you will differ. As this is probably one of our most frequently asked questions, we’re going to answer it for you in this blog. If you want to find out the right duvet tog for you, you’re in the right place!

What Does Tog Mean?

Contrary to what most people think, the Tog rating doesn’t stand for the thickness or quality of a duvet. Instead, it’s a measurement that is used to indicate the effectiveness of the thermal insulation of a material. In other words, the Tog rating says something about the warmth of a duvet. The higher the Tog, the warmer the duvet. It’s as simple as that. Still, it’s a relative measurement that needs some clarification to fully understand which duvet is right for you. The duvets you’ll find at Fine Bedding Company have Togs ranging from 4.5 Tog to 13.5 Tog.

4.5 Tog Duvet in Summer

Generally speaking, you’re going to need a different duvet during summer than you do during winter. In summer, a duvet doesn’t have to be as warm as the temperatures are higher. The ideal summer duvet, if you ask us, is the 4.5 Tog duvet. A good mnemonic to remember: the higher the temperature, the lower the Tog. And the other way around. Almost all of our duvets are available in 4.5 Tog, but our Breathe Duvet is exceptionally perfect during the summer season. The Breathe Duvet contains a special material called Modal. This is a naturally occurring fibre which is derived from natural wood pulps and helps to regulate the temperature by wicking away moisture to keep your body cool during a hot summer night. However, if you get cold easily, even in summer, we recommend choosing a  7 Tog duvet.

7 Tog or 10.5 Tog Duvet in Spring and Autumn

Depending on how easily you get cold, you’re going to need either a 7 Tog or 10.5 Tog duvet during spring and autumn. In both spring and autumn, the temperatures are lower than in summer, but it’s not freezing cold yet. You will need a warmer duvet than you did in summer, but your winter duvet will still leave you feeling sweaty. If you’re warm-blooded, a 7 Tog duvet will likely be enough. The Spundown Duvet is available in 7 Tog and offers both comfort and convenience with the possibility to wash the duvet at home easily, a helpful feature if you tend to sweat a lot at night. For a 10.5 Tog, the Goose Feather and Down Duvet is perfect if you love a ‘tucked-in’ feeling. The duvet gives you a luxury feeling with its hotel quality.

13.5 Tog Duvet in Winter

Brrr, it’s really getting cold outside now. Time to up your Tog! A 13.5 Tog duvet will keep you warm for sure during the winter months. Again, if you don’t get cold that easily, a 10.5 Tog might work fine as well. You know yourself best. But, is there anything better than the feeling of crawling under your warm duvet after a cold day? Exactly. One of our favourite duvets with a 13.5 Tog, is the Gold Hungarian Goose Down Duvet, with down that has a certified A1 Grade, meaning it is internationally acknowledged to be one of the best quality fillings. With a cover of 100% Sustainably Sourced Cotton, you’re guaranteed to sleep as you’ve never done before.

If you’re looking for a duvet that can be used throughout the entire year, the 4 seasons duvet is your best choice. The 4 seasons duvet consists of a 9 Tog and a 4.5 Tog duvet, which can be combined to form a warm 13.5 Tog duvet for winter. By buying the entire package at once, you end up saving money on your new duvet. Our Spundown Duvet is available in the 4 seasons warmth. If you tend to get sweaty at night, the Breathe Duvet is perfect as it innovatively regulates temperature.
