Sustainability is this year’s buzz word. Everywhere you look, it’s there. Eco-friendly, eco-conscious, recycling, vegan and ethically sourced. It comes in so many guises, but what does it all mean? And can bedding really be sustainable?

Bedding That Gives Back to The Planet

The team at Fine Bedding are passionate about creating quality products with a conscience. Things have come a long way since 1912 when the small family business started life, supplying cruise liners and ships. Fast forward to 2021 and, with one hundred years of experience behind them, it’s a company at the forefront of innovative, sustainable, ethically sourced bedding products.

Sustainable Bedding

With sustainability being top of the agenda, Fine Bedding’s microfiber duvet fillings use 25% less polyester than similar competitor products. Not only that but last year, 38% of polyester used in their manufactured products came from recycled products.

Smartfil® polyester used in the Night Owl range is one such example. When you feel the softness and comfort of these 2 in 1 duvet blankets, you won’t believe that the super soft filling once started life as a plastic bottle.  Made from recycled PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) bottles, this is cutting-edge technology at its best and a wonderfully creative repurposing of plastic.

The Smartdown Duvet is another of Fine Bedding’s luxurious, sustainable bedding products. Created from responsibly sourced raw materials, Smartdown duvet fibres have also been made from recycled plastic bottles. Again, with the use of progressive techniques, these fibres are uniquely spun and blown to simulate the feel and warmth of natural down. Along with its sustainably sourced cotton cover, you’d never know the difference. Sleep easily and play your part in making the world a more sustainable place with this utterly luxurious bedding.

Ethically Sourced Bedding

Suppliers for Fine Bedding are carefully selected with a focus on fair working conditions. To ensure this is the case, all tier one suppliers undergo a vigorous auditing process.

All cotton used in Fine Bedding products is sourced through The Better Cotton Initiative, the largest cotton sustainability program in the world. With a mission to make global cotton production better for the people that produce it and for the environment within which it grows, sourcing though this initiative was a no-brainer for this on-point brand.

Compassionate manufacturing is another key value so only by-products of the food industry are used. All suppliers are audited for no live plucking or force feeding, which would completely go against the ethics of Fine Bedding. In fact, this ethically conscious brand was the first filled bedding company to carry the prestigious Downpass Seal, as acknowledgement of their responsible sourcing.

Fine Bedding have gone even further in their quest to meet the needs of today’s responsibly-minded consumer with the Vegan Down Duvet. This innovative product simulates the luxury-feel of natural down, without actually containing any animal components or derivatives.

Give goose down the big heave-ho with this exquisitely soft duvet. The use of recycled plastic bottles comes to the fore once more, with these signature fibres expertly trapping air and providing warmth in the same way as traditional duvets. Wrapped within a 233 thread count sustainably sourced cotton cover, this duvet is extraordinarily breathable and comfortable, ensuring a restful sleep.

And as if that’s not enough, you can save 10,000 gallons of water purchasing a Fine Bedding duvet compared to a standard duvet!

Sustainable Operations

These days when we talk about our carbon footprint and the link to climate change, we automatically think of Greta Thunberg. The voice of tomorrow’s generation, this inspirational young woman has made us all dig deep and examine how we individually impact the world around us.

With issues such as global warming and greenhouse gases becoming more pertinent, it’s natural that businesses, too, have come under increasing scrutiny.

The amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere as a result of manufacturing bedding is something that’s taken extremely seriously by Fine Bedding. So much so, that their duvets have an incredible 19% lower carbon footprint than the industry standard. It also won’t surprise you that they’re also big advocates of minimising waste and 90% of their waste is recycled.

Sustainability and the Future

Sustainability will become more and more important over the coming years as we meet the global eco-challenges of too much plastic, greenhouse gases, climate change and deforestation.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re a business, wholesaler, consumer, or end-user, we can all make small lifestyle changes that together will make a huge difference to our environment. Change tomorrow by purchasing sustainable products for your house today and leave a legacy of compassion, hope, inspiration and most importantly, the natural world as it is for future generations.
