When it comes to bedding we all love a good bargain, however when we think of quality it typically comes at a price. Sustainability doesn’t always come hand in hand with an affordable price tag and generally speaking can cost more because it’s bespoke materials. However at The Fine Bedding Company, we’ve been pioneering premium sleep since 1912, our sleep experts strive in connecting everyone to a better sleep with eco-friendly bedding leading the way on comfort but also sustainability and affordability.

We've engineered our sleep systems for you and our planet, with our zero waste eco factory we bring luxury and sustainable goods into many people’s homes. In this article, we’ll delve more into what sustainability means to us and how we balance and source or premium materials with a consideration to the environment. Ultimately how a sustainable home doesn't need to break the bank!

What is BCI Cotton?

With ‘BCI Cotton’ mentioned around all of our products the question creeps up as to what actually is it? What does that mean for the people at home, what exactly is better cotton? The Better Cotton Initiative is a non-profit governance group monitoring the process of cotton and its overall standards.

Due to cotton being such a sought after crop, especially in the fast fashion industry as stated by the World Health Organisation Cotton production is responsible for the three most harmful chemicals on the planet. Its production alone is extremely harmful to the environment, contributing a staggering amount of greenhouse gases, use of harmful pesticides and fertilisers and pollutes thousands of litres of drinkable water. Therefore sourcing cotton and monitoring cotton farms is a huge part of sustainability in a product. With the cotton standards being so low the BCI label identifies better standards in cotton farming and practices across 21 countries. Helping and voicing those in the production line like the cotton farmers that may be taken advantage of but also may be contributing to a staggering amount of pollution. Therefore a BCI label reflects their mission to ‘help cotton communities survive and thrive, while protecting and restoring the environment’.

At The Fine Bedding Company our bed linen is all BCI sourced, like this 200 Thread Count Classic 100% BCI Cotton Duvet Cover. It's a breathable and smooth option thanks to its plain-dye BCI sourced cotton. A luxury addition to those renovating for a sustainable home, with its crisp feel and expensive appearance its quality exceeds the price tag. Partnered alongside the duvet cover is the 200 Thread Count Classic 100% BCI Cotton Deep Fitted Sheet. This percale weave sustainable cotton sheet is created using the finest quality whilst giving a luxuriously soft feel for a complete sustainable duvet set an ideal duo for a sustainable comfort sleep.
