It may be a welcome change from the wet weather we’ve experienced in May and June – but excessive heat comes with its own set of challenges – especially when it comes to keeping cool at night.
With that in mind and given most of us in the UK don’t have the luxury of air-con at home, here are a few tips to help get you through the heatwave…
1. Choose cotton
Save the ooh-la-la satin, silk, or polyester sheets for cooler nights. Light-coloured bed linens made of lightweight cotton (Egyptian or otherwise) are breathable and excellent for promoting ventilation and airflow in the bedroom.
2. Get cold comfort
Use your hot water bottle – no we’ve not gone crazy! During summer, stick it in the freezer to create a bed-friendly ice pack.
3. Stay hydrated
Get a leg up on hydration by drinking a glass of water before bed. Tossing and turning and sweating at night can result in dehydration, so top up on the H20 beforehand. Don’t overdo it, just 250ml will do the trick otherwise you may find yourself struggling to get back to sleep after a middle of the night bathroom trip.
4. Get loose
PJ’s or no PJ’s is down to personal preference but certainly less is definitely more when it comes to summertime nightwear. Pick a loose, soft cotton shirt and shorts or underwear. Some people believe it helps keep them cool, while others claim going au natural means sweat stays on the body instead of being wicked away by fabric. Choose what works for you.
5. Get tech-y
